Birdlife at the Cottage

The astonishing array of birdlife that attends the well-stocked bird feeders at Benchmark Cottage, and present across our moors, are a constant source of fascination, comment and artistic inspiration for so many of our guests – as their comments, sketches, pottery and photographic contributions will testify!

From the comfort of a reclining sofa, visitors can watch armies of blue-, coal- and long-tail tits, gold finches and siskins feed, along with our lovely nuthatch family and other garden species.

Woodpeckers, jays and owls can be heard (and often seen) in the surrounding woodland –along with swooping sparrowhawks that add to the drama!
